Financial aid is needed for Egypt and Tunisia. In their transition to democracy, the two countries must be supported by the major world powers. This is the message launched today by the United States to the big names in the G8, who will meet this week in France.
Wealthy nations should do everything possible to ensure that popular uprisings for freedom are successful. This was stated by the US secretary of state, Hilary Clinton, and the Washington treasury secretary, Timothy Geithner, in a letter addressed to the leaders of the summit.
“We share a strong interest that the transitions in Egypt and Tunisia will be successful and become models for the region – write Clinton and Geithner -. Otherwise, we risk missing out on this opportunity."
The two exponents of the US government then reaffirmed their commitment in favor of an agreement for the review of the Egyptian debt and asked the other G8 countries to do the same.
