In October, producer prices in the United States fell for the first time in the past five months, reflecting the decline in the price of gasoline and autos. The producer price index fell 0,2% from September, according to estimates from the Commerce Department. Analysts had expected progress of 0,2%.

Energy prices, which fell by 0,5%, contributed to performance, with gasoline notably declining by 2,2%. Food prices, on the other hand, continued to rise, posting an increase of 0,4%. According to the Commerce Department, Hurricane Sandy had no impact.

Producer prices excluding energy and food fell by 0,2%, registering the first decline since November 2010. Year-on-year, producer prices rose by 0,2% and core prices by 0,1 %.
