Unipol joins UnipolSai again. By virtue of the latest purchases, according to what has been reconstructed by Radiocor, the holding company has now come close to 80% of the subsidiary with the market which, two days after the half-yearly report of the Bolognese group, is once again questioning itself regarding a possible intervention on the chain of control. A hypothesis, the latter, which the CEO of Unipol Carlo Cimbri has however always dismissed, defining it unnecessary and in any case not on the table, at least until Unipol Banca will be within the perimeter of the parent company and will not marry another institute. In any case, the progressive increase in the shareholding, achieved with many small-scale transactions, speaks for itself: on 24 April, at the shareholders' meeting, Unipol held 73,5% of UnipolSai, at the end of May it reached Approximately 76,3% and today is close to 80%. A trend which, as mentioned, has led more than one operator to wonder what the real objective of this strategy is and whether it is preparatory to possible extraordinary operations.
On the possible shortening of the chain, speaking during the last meeting in April, Cimbri had also underlined that – should the conditions arise for taking it into consideration – 'convenience and opportunity' should be evaluated, given that the current double level (with two distinct and listed companies) offers certain strategic options at the level of extraordinary operations. Unipol, in fact, functions as a holding company and controls three business legs: Unipol Banca, Unipol Rec (the vehicle for bank non-performing loans) and UnipolSai, into which all insurance and social security activities have gradually been transferred (including UniSalute , Linear and, since yesterday, 63% of Arca Vita). Furthermore, the holding controls 15% of Bper and is authorized to increase to 19,9%. On Friday, the half-yearly accounts of Unipol and UnipolSai will be released, which will also see the contribution of a definitively restored Unipol Banca.
