Important steps forward in the investigation that for more than three years has been investigating the financial and political ties connected to the merger between Unipol and Fondiaria-Sai. The number of suspects rises to ten, with new names added to those, already known, of the CEO of UnopolSai Carlo Cimbriby Robert Jay (at the time of the CEO merger of Premafin Finanziaria), Fabio I circled (former chairman of the Milano Assicurazioni board of directors) and Vanes Gallants, former chairman of the Board of Unipol Assicurazioni.
Prosecutor Marco Gianoglio, after bringing together the various lines of investigation, has in fact entered in the register of suspects, on charges of insider trading, some of the managers of Isvap (now Ivass), e Consob. The identity of the new members is still strictly confidential, but in any case they are subjects active in the preparation and management of the merger of the two insurance giants, who worked for the two bodies responsible for judging the fairness of the evaluation of shares put into circulation immediately after the merger.
The investigators are convinced that the the value of the shares was artfully inflated to make the merger advantageous to Unipol. Prosecutor Gianoglio aims to close the game by the autumn.
The merger by incorporation of Unipol, Premafin and Milano Assicurazioni into FonSai ended up in the files of numerous prosecutors. From 2014 to today, the Turin public prosecutor's office has collected interceptions and documents relating to the operation that took place in 2013 which led to the creation of UnipolSai.
At the beginning of September, the prosecutor's consultants will file their final report, and if what is now thought emerges, the guarantee notices will be triggered for excellent names in the world of Italian finance.
