Unipol-Bnl, new trial for Fazio: the Cassation cancels 11 acquittals

The former governor of the Bank of Italy and 10 other defendants in the Unipol-Bnl trial will have to go back to trial: however, the terms for the bis appeal expire on 19 December.

Unipol-Bnl, new trial for Fazio: the Cassation cancels 11 acquittals

Canceled the acquittal of the former governor of the Bank of Italy, Antonio Fazio, and 10 other defendants for the attempted takeover of Unipol to Bnl. This was decided by the Cassation, which ordered the postponement to a new trial. Instead, the sentences for Ivano Sacchetti (one year and six months) and Giovanni Consorte (one year and seven months) for insider trading.

The appeal process bis ordered by the Cassation should focus on the crime of insider trading, on which, however, the statute of limitations will start on December 19th, according to calculations by the same Cassation. Together with Fazio, Vito Bonsignore, Francesco Gaetano Caltagirone, Carlo Cimbri, Danilo Coppola, Guido Leoni, Ettore and Tiberio Lonati, Stefano Ricucci and Giuseppe Statuto should return to trial.
