Unicredit: UCCMB adheres to an agreement on assets confiscated from criminals

UniCredit Credit Management Bank (UCCMB) has adhered to the Memoranda of Understanding with the Court of Rome, the Court of Milan and ABI for the management of assets stolen from organized crime. The objective of this important initiative is not to allow the consequences of crime-related actions to tear apart the entrepreneurial fabric, which has already been put to the test not only by the economic situation but also by criminal interference.

To achieve the effective liberation of the territories from the mafias it is necessary, in fact, to allow the continuity of the activities of the companies subject to seizure and confiscation by the judicial authority. By adhering to the Protocols, the Entities - not only the banks, but also the most representative trade associations such as Unindustria and Confcommercio, Regions, the Municipalities of Rome and Milan, National Unions, etc. – outline active action plans, according to their respective institutional competences.

The commitment of UCCMB, a leading Bank in mandated management of the recovery of anomalous credits, and of the other banks involved, is above all not to automatically revoke unexpired credit lines to companies subject to seizure orders and to continue to disburse new loans for allow them to remain on the market in a productive manner, at the request of the judicial administrator.

"When economic activities polluted by the mafias are seized with the intention of cutting off their tentacles, unfortunately, innocent connected realities are also affected: with the closure of a company, its prospects are lost, many citizens are deprived of their work without fault and honest. Instead, we need to convert these realities, recover them, bringing them back to operating in the wake of justice and rules - says Dino Crivellari, CEO of UCCMB - In a country that bases its productive economy on SMEs, in a moment like this, we cannot afford to lose who deserves to stay on the market. The common effort, to which UCCMB joins, must aim precisely at this: at the protection and development of businesses against any mafia".

The signing of the Protocols is a further step in the fight against organized crime to improve and simplify the procedure for requesting, assigning and managing confiscated assets. It is also important that, in order to achieve these results, actions are conducted in a collegial manner and collaboration between the institutions involved in the fight against crime is promoted.
