Unicredit: Jean-Pierre Mustier is the new CEO

After weeks of uncertainty, the white smoke arrives: Jean-Pierre Mustier will be the new CEO of Unicredit. This was established by the bank's Board of Directors, convened in an extraordinary session on Thursday morning.

The appointment of the French manager – who undermined the candidacies of Flavio Valeri (Deutsche bank) and Fabrizio Viola (Mps) – puts an end to a long phase of instability in the management of the bank, which began on 24 May with the resignation of Federico Ghizzoni .

In 2011, the former CEO had called Mustier to lead the investment banking division of Unicredit. The Frenchman then moved on to the private Tikehau fund in 2015.

Following the news, Unicredit's share on the Stock Exchange recorded a sudden acceleration (+2%), after being suspended due to excessive downtrend during the morning. In the following minutes, however, the gain decreased (+0,4%).
