UniCredit has entered into an agreement with Besana, a company active in the production, processing and marketing of hazelnuts and dried and dried fruit. At the same time, a 2 million euro loan was finalized aimed at supporting the Italian and foreign supply chain of the sector with the aim of increasing the penetration capacity of the Campania company and of the participating companies on the national and international market.

The Besana Group, born in 1921 with the founding of the company “Emilio Besana & Co.” in San Gennaro Vesuviano (Naples), today owns various productions and factories in Italy and abroad, for an annual volume of 42 tons of nuts and dried fruit and a turnover of approximately 190 million euros, positioned on foreign markets which represent 90% of turnover.

In detail, the 2 million euro loan, disbursed by Unicredit, will be used to support the development of the BISC-"Besana International Supply Chain” which provides for the implementation of an international procurement and quality control network of the supply chain between the foreign companies of the Besana Group (Besana Spa, Besana Uk and Besana International), with the aim of improving the process of acquiring raw materials of "premium" quality and services from foreign suppliers, in order to increase "profitability, quality and efficiency in the cultivation of raw materials and to encourage cultivation in areas with a strong production vocation, especially in Eastern European countries (Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Romania and Hungary, Croatia)”, reads the joint note issued by the companies.

The financing operation was coordinated by the Campania North Corporate Area of Unicredit with the guarantee of SACE, which together with SIMEST constitutes the export and internationalization hub of the CDP Group.

Speaking of the agreement, Unicredit has signed an agreement with Besana relating to the Agri-food chains. “The project implemented by UniCredit addresses the specificity of the production process through a dedicated model that starts from the identification of typical characteristics of the relationship between the lead supplier (hub) and the contributing companies (spokes), in order to intercept the needs of the companies involved. This also through the exchange of information between the lead company and the bank on the analysis of the production process and on the role of its lenders”, explains the note.

The plan includes the offer of short, medium and long-term financing products suited to specific needs, with the aim of promoting the growth of the entire manufacturing sector, both in Italy and in the Campania region. Lastly, the agreement also provides members with the possibility of accessing training plans, with a program of free courses dedicated to those who want to increase their knowledge of banking and finance, exports and internationalisation.

“Full control of the Supply Chain is the pre-condition for a true generation of value for the Group – explains the Chairman of the Besana Group, Giuseppe Calcagni – and the development of research and development activities on this front are the main strategic element to be monitored ”.

"We have an important program of technological investments - continues the Chief Executive Officer of the Besana Group, Riccardo Calcagni - alongside training and growth of the group's human capital, to keep the know-how high in the Supply Chain assurance activities and to allow correct combination of Italian know-how and the growth potential of global procurement. The programmed supply chain checks, in fact, allow the achievement of the highest quality of the raw material in compliance with the principles of healthiness and ethics of the cultivation techniques, primary values for our group "
