Hungary: after Brexit, migrant referendums

Another important test awaits the European Union after the British referendum which sanctioned Brexit.

Another popular consultation for the future of the EU will take place on 2 October. Hungary is calling for it. The head of state, Jànos Ader, formally communicated that the date of 2 October has been chosen for the referendum in which Magyar citizens will be called to say whether or not they accept a distribution of quotas for refugees and migrants decided by the European executive.

According to the Hungarian media, given the growing fears about immigration and above all given the broad consensus enjoyed by Premier Viktor Orbàn, promoter of the initiative, among the citizens, the No seems headed towards a certain victory.

This is the question the Hungarians will be called upon to answer: "Do you want the European Union, even without consulting the Hungarian Parliament, to prescribe the immigration to Hungary of people who are not Hungarian citizens?".
