A bee will save us: Pasticceria Filippi adopts hives in Zané

Honey and Pastry, an indissoluble combination. A combination to keep and develop more and more and not only for pastry preparations. The initiative of Pasticceria Filippi of Zanè (Vicenza) starts from these premises of social responsibility and commitment to the environment, which has decided to adopt a suitable number of hives thanks to the Saving Bees project. With this contribution, the beekeeping oasis will grow by 180.000 bees, the hectares of land covered by the flights will be 9.000, with an average of 675.000 flowers visited per day and an indirect CO2 compensation of 900 kg.

“The choice of raw materials is fundamental for us – explains Andrea Filippi, creator of all the recipes of Pasticceria Filippi – We have always used honey for our sweets, produced by small local suppliers with respect for nature. As soon as we learned about the Saving Bees project, we decided to be part of it to preserve the value of these fascinating animals, fundamental to our ecosystem".

Safeguarding our planet is a theme dear to Andrea and Lorenzo Filippi, owners of Pasticceria Filippi, who have been engaged for years in the search for environmentally and economically sustainable methodologies. Since 2016, the pastry shop has become a B Corp (www.societabenefit.net), integrating strategies and programs into the company in order to have a positive impact on society and the biosphere.

Saving Bees is an initiative in support of bees, which in the last 50 years have seen a huge increase in colony mortality: 9,2% of populations in Europe are at risk of extinction. A very serious damage to the ecosystem, since these precious insects are the main resource for biodiversity on our planet and, therefore, for the presence of all species, being responsible for the reproduction of over 70% of existing plants through pollination . Saving Bees is a project created to support the life of these small insects, which are essential for our existence, through the creation of a beekeeping oasis on a 13.000 m² plot. It is an uncontaminated area, rich in spontaneous flora and nectar-producing plants, both herbaceous and arboreal, where bees can feed and promote cross-pollination, the basis of reproductive success and biodiversity.
