A resolution of the Environment Commission of the Chamber changes the route of the "Rete Adriatica" methane pipeline

The document, presented by four deputies of the Democratic Party, was voted unanimously. The project, presented in 2004 by Snam Rete Gas, envisaged a 687 km route between Brindisi and Minerbio. The European Commission had already opened an investigation procedure following the appeals presented in Brussels.

A resolution of the Environment Commission of the Chamber changes the route of the "Rete Adriatica" methane pipeline

Yesterday the Environment Commission of the Chamber of Deputies unanimously voted on a resolution, presented by the Pd deputies Mariani, Lolli, Vannucci and Verini, with which the government undertakes to order the modification of the route of the Adriatic Network methane pipeline (Brindisi-Minerbio of 687 km), whose project was presented in 2004 by Snam Rete Gas, in order to "exclude the Apennine belt". The structure would cross ten regions, three national parks, one regional park and over twenty sites of Community importance.

The resolution explains that the modification of the route was established “both to avoid the high environmental costs that would arise, and due to the high danger to the safety of citizens due to the seismic risk which would put a strain on the vulnerability of the pipeline. The document also highlights that the European Commission has already opened an investigation procedure following a series of appeals presented in Brussels. The signatories therefore argue that “the reasons for the passage on the Apennine axis appear to be dictated only by the economic interests of the company. The great work will bring advantages to Snam and profits to private individuals, while the environmental and economic costs - they conclude - will be borne by the communities of the Apennines”.
