A bubble of Moscato giallo: Dila', the revelation of the Euganean Hills

A bold, sinuous and mineral classic method to describe a still unknown volcanic territory in the heart of the Euganean hills.

A bubble of Moscato giallo: Dila', the revelation of the Euganean Hills

If you talk about Moscato Giallo, you must necessarily think of Maeli, a very young company located in Veneto, in the heart of the Euganean Hills, a territory of volcanic origin traditionally suited to this particular vine that has always characterized it, but known so far only for its sweet and sparkling interpretation, unfortunately the victim of prejudices far in time, disrespectful of its extraordinary potential. Instead, it was born from a brilliant intuition of Elisa Dilavanzo, a young producer who has always been passionate about Moscato, the firm will to give this unique and elegant vine a well-defined, clear and powerful identity. Powerful because Moscato Giallo really has the necessary energy to explode, in a market that is now saturated but always looking for new products strongly linked to the territory.

This vine is also very versatile and the Via del Yellow Muscat, i.e. the valorisation project that underlies Maeli's philosophy, is the ambitious and successful proof of this, also shared by Gianluca and Desiderio Bisol who, since the beginning, already witnesses of the success enjoyed by Prosecco in the Valdobbiadene area years ago , believed in the Euganean area and its potential. The company originates in 2011 and owns 13,5 hectares of vineyard land, of which 10 hectares in the Colli di Luvigliano di Torreglia, in the famous Terre Bianche del Pirio, at 280 meters above sea level, practically the kingdom of Moscato Giallo. The other 3,5 hectares are covered by vineyards of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere and other ancient autochthonous varieties and are located near the cellar, in Baone. maeli today it produces about 60.000 bottles a year divided between seven labels, 5 white wines and 2 red wines. Among the whites, Dilà stands out, a Classic Method Brut Nature created for the first time in 2012 and placed on the market in 2014, a vintage with which it earned an extraordinary mention from the American Bloomberg agency which included it among the best wines in the world , placing it in the top ten together with Champagne, Chassagne Montrachet and Chateax Margaux, as the only Italian wine among the 4000 tasted. The subsequent 2015 vintage instead earned a Gold Medal in the prestigious Gilbert&Gaillard International Challenge 2018 competition.

Dilà is a wine gold and precious, with an elegant and luminous perlage that evokes white and yellow flowers on the nose, such as magnolia, jasmine and orange blossom, and yellow and exotic fruit. The taste is savory and mineral, and the aftertaste is slightly bitter, as if to reveal the volcanic nature of the lands from which it comes.

The identity of the territory of the Euganean Hills lies entirely in a soil of volcanic origin, rich in trachyte, limestone and clay, which mix with marl and silt in the vineyard. It is precisely the initials of these two precious components that give the name to the Maeli winery in Baone, a town of 4000 inhabitants located on the southern slope of the Euganean hills with a 180-degree panorama of Venice on one side and the Dolomites on the other and which has a long winemaking tradition.

Here the vineyards are deeply rooted in soils composed of marly flakes of calcareous rocks, soaked in trachytic sands, and enjoy excellent exposure to the light and heat of the sun for most of the day, protected by Monte Pirio, which mitigates the currents cold from the north.

The variety of soils, the slope of the hills, the different exposures of the vineyards, the peculiarity of the microclimates, the temperature ranges of this side and again all the vegetation of holm oaks, strawberry trees, fruit trees and olive trees are strongly expressed in the Maeli wine a reality that finds energy from the support of the brothers Gianluca and Desiderio Bisol, who encourage the search for new expressions of a vine that still has a lot to reveal.

"Here I wanted to work - says Elisa Dilavanzo, who from sommelier turned into an entrepreneur by taking over the leadership of the Maeli company - with the dream of carrying out a project and promoting a territory, focusing on a native vine, Moscato Giallo, experimenting new vinifications. to produce a wine that is both full of emotions and a worthy ambassador of this prestigious territory”.

The company also produces a Rosso Infinito, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carmenere and Barbera and the D+ Colli Euganei, made up of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon.

In front of the cellar stands the old restored farmhouse, ideal for those who decide to live a complete sensory experience and immerse themselves in the quiet of nature that surrounds the cellar and the house. But also for trips to discover the Moscato route which reserves many surprises
