Renzi's ultimatum to Conte on Recovery and green light for the Mes

Either Prime Minister Conte goes back on the control room, on the Recovery funds and on the Secret Service Foundation or it will be a government crisis, because Renzi will not vote on the Budget Law and will withdraw his ministers if he does not radically change his ways – Meanwhile, Parliament approves the reform of the Mes, but the real political clash is on another terrain

Renzi's ultimatum to Conte on Recovery and green light for the Mes

Via the control room, review the current allocation of the 209 billion of the Recovery Fund and via the Cybersecurity Foundation. Either Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte backtracks on these three points and removes them from the Budget Law and from the table, or Italia Viva will leave the government and it will be a crisis. This is the essence of the ultimatum launched yesterday in the Senate hall by the leader of Italia Viva, Matteo Renzi, who did not give the premier discounts and who put on the plate the request for an immediate U-turn from Conte, under penalty of government crisis.

Renzi complains that Conte did it all by himself without consulting his allies, both on the control room and on the distribution of Recovery funds and on the establishment of the Secret Service Foundation that all the political forces of Copasir had opposed. For this reason, the IV leader has left no way out for the premier: either Conte withdraws his proposals and the rules included in the Budget Law or Italia Viva will not vote for it and the government will go into crisis. Renzi's dissent is on the method (Conte decided everything by himself and inserted the three contested rules in the Budget Law) and on the merits (i.e. on the three points mentioned)

Those who thought that Renzi was a bluff must change their mind: the number one of Italia Viva, who also interprets the malaise of a large part of the Democratic Party and of the secretary Nicola Zingaretti and of that part of the Five Stars who recognize themselves in the minister Luigi Di Maio, was clear and sharp towards a prime minister who seemed bewildered and who today, due to his own mistakes, will go to the European summit very weakened.

Renzi's attack was the highlight of yesterday's day and pushed it into the background the approval of the Government resolution on the reform of the Mes (the one that saves states and not the health one) that both the Chamber and the Senate have approved, thus absorbing the grillina frond inspired by Di Battista.

Now, however, the real game has begun on the future of the Government, which will be played in the last days of the year, when Parliament will have to vote on the Budget Law. Since none of the parliamentarians, especially after the cut in seats, wants to go home early, it is clear that early elections – despite the correct warning of the Head of State – I'm a remote guess and this is why the challenge will be all-out. Either Conte backtracks or this time the people's advocate really risks his job. From the first moves leaked yesterday, it is probable that the prime minister is looking for a way out, but there are two cases: either save face by holding the point or save your chair by backing off. The next few hours will tell us what lurks under the political sky.
