UK: Parliament says yes to the vote on 8 June

General elections will be held in the United Kingdom on 8 June. After Teresa May's surprise announcement came the confirmation of the British Parliament. The House of Commons approved the Government's motion to call early voting, exceeding the required quorum of two thirds.

In addition to the Conservatives, Jeremy Corbyn's Labor and the Liberal Democratic party voted in favour. Abstention for the Scottish independence activists of the SNP abstained.

"We are ready to fight for every vote." With these words, the British prime minister opened Question Time in the House of Commons, speaking of the early elections she announced yesterday, 18 April. The aim is to strengthen the Conservative Party, making a clean sweep of the opposition, in view of the battle with the EU over Brexit.

"I am not prepared to allow the opponents of Brexit to weaken Britain," proclaimed the British premier.
