EU vs Google: search engines are impartial

EU vs Google: search engines are impartial

Given the role of Internet search engines in "marketing the secondary exploitation of the information obtained" and the need to enforce EU competition rules, MEPs call on the Commission, "to consider proposals aimed at separating search engines from other commercial services” in the long term.

The European deputies are asking for it by a majority in a resolution that targets Google, already under fire from the Antitrust for abuse of a dominant position. The resolution is not binding on the Commission. However, the deputies invite it to "prevent any abuse in the marketing of interconnected services by search engine operators". For the EU Parliament "indexing, evaluation, presentation and classification carried out by search engines must be impartial and transparent".
