The European Commission has given the go-ahead for the purchase of WhatsApp by Facebook. This was announced in a statement released by the Commission, which explains that the merger between the two companies does not create problems from the point of view of competition in any of the three areas subjected to analysis, since Facebook and WhatsApp are not direct competitors and that "consumers will continue to have a wide choice of communication apps".
Brussels, therefore, grants its green light for the 19 billion dollar operation that will lead Mark Zuckerberg's social network to acquire the most popular messaging application in the world.
At the same time, however, the Commission warns of "possible privacy issues that could emerge from the increased concentration of data under Facebook's control". These issues, in any case, "are not within the competence of the antitrust authorities".
