EU, Van Rompuy and Barroso warn Renzi: "Everyone must respect the rules"

"Everyone in Europe must respect the agreed rules": this is the common thought of Van Rompuy and Barroso, who are preparing to meet Prime Minister Matteo Renzi to talk about the announced reforms.

EU, Van Rompuy and Barroso warn Renzi: "Everyone must respect the rules"

In the European Union “Everyone must continue to apply the agreed rules”, said the president of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy when questioned, during a press conference in Brussels, on the proposals on the subject of economic policies expressed by the president of the Council Matteo Renzi.

"I have not yet had the opportunity to speak directly with Renzi - he added - I will do it tomorrow morning to understand exactly what the nature of his statements is". In Europe “everyone must continue to apply the agreed rules – Van Rompuy then warned – I will discuss it tomorrow morning with Renzi to understand the scope of his intentions”.

The president of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso, on the other hand, did not want to comment on Mateo Renzi's economic policy proposals, before the meeting he will have today with the Italian Prime Minister himself. However, when asked about the issue, he said in general that he had the same position expressed by the president of the EU Council, Herman van Rompuy, who stated that "everyone in Europe must respect the agreed rules".

Furthermore, Barroso said he had "taken note" of what Renzi said in Berlin, adding that a very ambitious reform program "is essential to ensure confidence in the commitments made in recent years".
