EU current account balance over 12 billion

The ECB evaluates the current account balance as positive by more than 12 billion – The data for the month of May have been corrected downwards – Eurostat data on the trade balance of the Eurozone has also been released, which has more than doubled its surplus in June – Train the exports to non-EU countries: +12%.

EU current account balance over 12 billion

The European Central Bank has assessed the seasonally adjusted figure of current account balance in June 2012. The indicator indicating the trade balance of the'Eurozone with the rest of the world in terms of goods, services and financial flows recorded a surplus of 12,7 billion, well above the consensus which stopped at 11,1 billion. The May figure was instead revised downwards. The surplus was calculated at 10,3 billion, compared with the previous estimate of 10,9 billion.

Also today Eurostat has released data on the trade balance of the 17 countries of the Eurozone. In June the balance was positive at 14,9 billion euros against 7,1 billion in the previous survey (data revised from 6,9 billion). For exports are an increase of 2,4% compared to May, while imports remain stable. Considering the trend, on the other hand, exports to non-EU17 countries rose by 12% to 161,5 billion euro, while imports from non-EU17 countries rose by 2% in the same period.
