EU: new look and security measures for the 10 euro banknote

New look for the 10 euro banknote, with renewed security measures. The new 23 euro banknotes, presented today by Yves Mersch, will come into circulation from 10 September.

“Twelve years after the issue of euro banknotes and coins – declared the ECB executive member – it is easy for us to take them for granted and forget what an ambitious, even daring project the introduction of the euro was.

The single currency has helped unite millions of Europeans, in all our diversity, and the banknotes and coins are a tangible symbol of our determination to support the European Union”.

The portrait of Europa included in the watermark makes the new banknote, otherwise very similar to the previous series, more secure, as well as an emerald green serial number that changes color to dark blue when moved.
