EU, migrants: "Landings down by 81%"

This was stated by European Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos who underlined how EU policies aimed at improving the management of migrant flows in the central Mediterranean "are starting to bear fruit".

“In August in Italy there was a drop of 81% compared to the same month last year. And there was a 66% drop compared to July”. This was stated by the European Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos who underlined how, in his opinion, the EU policies aimed at improving the management of the flows of migrants in the central Mediterranean "are starting to bear fruit".

In particular, underlines the report on the progress of the "framework of alliances" on immigration presented today by the commissioner, the number of deaths at sea "reduced significantly during the summer", while over 11 migrants were convinced by the international organization for immigration to voluntarily return to their countries of origin from Libya and Niger.

Statements also confirmed by the Minister of the Interior, Marco Minniti, according to whom "We are facing a significant reduction in the arrivals of migrants but we cannot yet say that it is a structural decline".

Avramopoulos' statements come on the day when the judges of the EU Court of Justice reject the request to cancel the quota system presented by the governments of Budapest and Bratislava.
