Brussels, Nov 21 – “Greece will remain in the Euro: this is the only route to follow, and the only direction in which we move”. The Greek Prime Minister said Lucas Papademos, in the press conference following the meeting with the President of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso.

Papademos wanted to underline how the one he presides over is "an interim government", which intends to "prepare the ground for the next elected government", which will have to “continue along the path of reforms and sustainable growth”. Papademos said he was "convinced" of the possibility of overcoming the crisis. “I believe that this government will be able to achieve all the objectives, even in the short term”. To achieve this, he then articulated, there is the commitment to "put into practice the commitments made during the Eurosummit of last October 26th".

Satisfied with the Barroso meeting, who called on the Greek authorities to show "courage" and "responsibility" to proceed with effective anti-crisis measures, the same requests from the EU for the release of the sixth tranche of aid. “I understand that these are difficult times for many Greek citizens, but – said Barroso – sometimes in life we ​​have to make very difficult decisions, knowing that the alternatives are even worse”. A warning, the one addressed by the president of the community executive, also the result of the contingency of the moment. “The situation is extremely serious. "For Greece we have mobilized resources like never before", and therefore, concluded Barroso, "the political determination is needed to implement the commitments made".
