EU: Fiat and Starbucks will have to repay 20-30 million

Fiat e Starbucks received unlawful tax advantages in Luxembourg and the Netherlands. This was established by the European Commission, according to which the concessions received by the companies would be incompatible with EU regulations. For this reason the community executive, in its note, indicated an amount of taxes to be recovered of “at least 20-30 million euros” both for Fiat and for Starbucks, a level well below that hypothesized for the Lingotto in recent days, when rumors spoke of repayments for 200 million euros.

"I hope today's decisions - said Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager - get this message across Member States, at government and business level: all businesses, big or small, multinational or not, must pay their fair share of taxes".

In any case, as Vestager herself explained at a press conference, Luxembourg still has two months to "make its calculations" on the funds it must recover from Fiat Finance and Trade: "We – concluded Vestager – have opened a procedure to ensure that recovery takes place". The two companies will, however, be able to appeal against the decision.

Meanwhile, fca reduce losses a Business Square, on the day of Ferrari landing on Wall Street: shares, which had fallen by 4% this morning, regained the 14 euro mark (-0,7%, to 14,13 euro).
