EU: drop in car sales -7,1%

The car market suffered in January especially in Italy (-16,9%) and in France (-20,7%) - Fiat also suffered, whose market share in the EU dropped to 7%, but the trend of the last months remains positive – Volkswagen instead confirms itself as the leader of the Community market with a share of 23,9%.

Europeans have not bought cars in the last month. The data released by Acea confirm the negative trend for the car market in the EU. In the 27 member countries, sales decreased to 968.769 units, 7,1% less than the previous month. The greatest decline was recorded in Portugal, with sales almost halved (-47,4%). They follow among the countries with the worst data France (-20,7%) and Italy (-16,9%). The decrease was slight in Germany (-0,4%) while the United Kingdom remained stable. On the other hand, the data from Spain is good, where cars increased by 2,5%. However, the best result was recorded in Romania: +86,4%

FIAT – In Europe, sales of the Lingotto decreased by 16,2% to 67.980 units. Its market share decreases from 7,8% to 7%. Alfa Romeo also loses 27,2% to 8.603 units while the Lancia/Chrysler brand gains 8% against the trend with sales of 8.900 units. Long leap forward for Jeep, a brand of the Chrysler group, which rises by 53,8% to 2.101 units. As stated in a note from the Group, the trends for the Turin house have been growing in recent months. In fact, the Lingotto market share in August was 5,8% and has tended to grow since then. The results are positive above all in Germany, with an increase in sales of 4,2% in January, and in the United Kingdom where it recorded a +2,2%. 

VOLKSWAGEN – The German automaker confirms its role as leader in Europe with a market share rising from 22% to 23,9% and a 0,7% increase in sales to 231.151 units. 

American society Ford and the French one Renault are in second place on the podium, with a market share of 8,3%. The historic US automaker saw sales fall 4,3% to 80.212 units while the French giant contracted 25,2% to 80.742 units. Sales are also down Psa Group (-14,9% to 121.480 units) e GM Group (-14,2% to 71.787 units)
