”I confirm that the Commission will present its options for the introduction of the Eurobonds”. This was stated by the president of the EU Commission, José Manuel Barroso, in front of the assembly in Strasbourg, adding however that any Community obligations “would not be a panacea in any case. We have to be honest: Eurobonds would not lead to an immediate solution to the problems we are facing and would only be one element of a broader approach towards further political and economic integration”.
Barroso also announced that the European Union will propose the introduction of the Tobin Tax, ie the tax on financial transactions.
