EU, 27% of minors at risk of poverty in 2011

Italy has exceeded the EU average with 32,3% - The countries where the situation of minors is toughest are Bulgaria (52% at risk of poverty), Romania (49%), Latvia (44%), Hungary (40%), Ireland (38%) and Lithuania (33,4%).

In 2011, 27% of under 18s were at risk of poverty and social exclusion in the European Union. Italy exceeded the EU average with 32,3%. The same situation at the community level for 24% of adults and 21% of the elderly over 65 years of age. The data was released by Eurostat.  

Even more at risk are those minors whose parents have low educational qualifications: in this category, half of those at risk of poverty are (Italy 46,3%), against 22% of those who are the children of parents with diplomas (Italy 22,6%) and 7% of those who are children of graduates (Italy 7,5%).

The situation for the children of immigrants is also problematic (in cases where at least one of the two parents is not originally from the country of residence): 32% are in difficult economic conditions. 

The countries where the situation of minors is harshest are Bulgaria (52% at risk of poverty), Romania (49%), Latvia (44%), Hungary (40%), Ireland (38%) and Lithuania (33,4, 16%), followed soon after by Italy. At the opposite end of the ranking we find Sweden, Denmark and Finland (17% risk of poverty), Slovenia (18%), the Netherlands (19%) and Austria (XNUMX%).
