The hostilities between Ukraine and Russia involve many risks for the Italian economy, but they are also a source of direct, personal concern for many people who live in our country. Indeed, among the non-EU communities present in Italy, the Ukrainian one is one of the largest. According to the data of the latest Istat census, which refers to January 2021, XNUMX, this is a total of about 236 thousand people, whose gender distribution is by no means homogeneous, given that women represent over 75% of the total (just over 183, against less than 53 men).
The regional distribution of the Ukrainian community in Italy
The Italian region that welcomes the largest number of Ukrainian citizens is the Lombardia, which alone reaches 23,2% of the total, just under 55 people.
Second place is the Campania, which stops just over 41 thousand, equal to 17,4%.
It is placed on the third step of the classification Emilia Romagna with 14,1%, equivalent to just over 33 thousand people.
Rounding out the top-5 the Lazio and Veneto, where 10,2 and 7,1% of the Ukrainian community live respectively in Italy (equal to 24 and 17 people).
In sixth position is the Toscana (4,8%, just over 11 residents), followed closely by Piemonte (4,4%, about 10 thousand people).
In the other Italian regions, however, the presence of Ukrainian citizens is much less consistent, not reaching 6 thousand units. At the bottom of the ranking are, predictably, Basilicata (775 people), Molise (496) and Valle d'Aosta (300)
