Ukraine, Putin and Poroshenko: ceasefire agreement

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin agreed in a telephone conversation on a "permanent ceasefire in Donbas" in eastern Ukraine. It brings it back iThe site of the Ukrainian presidency.

According to Kiev, "mutual understanding has been reached regarding the measures that will contribute to the creation of peace".

The leaders of the self-proclaimed Republic of Donetsk have announced that they are ready to resolve the conflict with Kiev politically if government forces respect the ceasefire.

The fighting between separatist militiamen and Kiev forces had been going on for months and the last truce requested by the newly elected Poroshenko had not held.

Today, however, the Russian media are talking about a withdrawal of Kiev troops from Donetsk.

Meanwhile, at the NATO summit scheduled for tomorrow and Friday in Wales, the Atlantic Alliance is preparing for new decisions, following the announcement of new exercises on the Eastern front in response to the Ukraine crisis.

Russia, for its part, has announced that it will carry out major exercises in September of the strategic missile forces responsible for its long-range nuclear arsenal. About 4.000 military and 400 technical units, including aviation, will participate in the maneuvers. This was revealed by the Ria-Novosti agency, quoting the Defense Ministry.
