Ukraine in the square: the statue of Lenin in Kiev is torn down

The statue of Lenin toppled to the ground in Kiev. This is the response of some pro-EU demonstrators to the Ukrainian government's decision to freeze the association agreement between Ukraine and the European Union. This was announced by the Ukrainian police, cited by the Interfax agency.

According to the Itar-Tass news agency, militants of the ultra-nationalist Svoboda party demolished the monument dedicated to the father of the October Revolution. Protesters tied ropes around the statue and knocked it to the ground.

Subsequently – again according to Itar-Tass – they sang the Ukrainian national anthem. According to the "KyivPost" website, demonstrators protesting against pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych pulled the statue down with the help of a steel rope. Then, they beheaded her shouting “Yanukovych, you're next”.
