Uber wins over taxis: stop lifted

Uber's black cars are back on the road in Italy. The Court of Rome today revoked the previous order of April 7 through which it blocked the Uber – Black service throughout Italy and established the blackout of the App.

Today's decision will surely infuriate Italian taxi drivers who, after the violent controversies of recent months, are recovering a defeat in the battle that sees them fight against the American giant.

Uber will therefore be able to continue to operate in Italy through Uber Black, while the stop established by the Court of Turin on March 22 remains in force on Uber Pop and Uber X.

Today's is the definitive ruling after the suspension arrived on April 14 which de facto allowed the San Francisco company to continue its work on the national territory.

"We are really happy to be able to announce to all the people and over a thousand Uber partner drivers that they will be able to continue to use our application in Italy,” Uber explained in a statement. "Now more than ever there is a strong need to update the dated legislation still in force, so as to allow new technologies to improve the lives of citizens and the mobility of cities".

Opposite reaction from Federtaxi who accuses "politics and strong powers", guilty of "having won" -

"The Court - said the national spokesman Federico Rolando - considered it could not fail to take into consideration the Lanzillotta amendment approved in the course of this case which affected the principle of territoriality and the obligation to return of ncc. Therefore, thanks to our Parliament and the commitments made and not respected by the Government, a completely abusive service (such as Uber Black) will be able to continue to operate in Italy. We have no words to describe our bewilderment”.
