Twitter abandons 140 characters but only for direct messages. The microblogging platform does not lose its peculiar characteristic as regards tweets but decides to give up the 140-character synthesis as regards mail messages. An important choice launched with an attempt to involve a greater number of users and partially homologating itself to the various Messengers of Facebook and Whatsapp.

The novelty of farewell to the 140 characters for direct messages follows shortly after the introduction of the possibility of writing to everyone and not just to the people with whom you follow each other. The change is already rolling out to the Twitter app for Android and iOS, Twitter.com, TweetDeck, and Twitter for Mac. The update will be complete in the coming weeks. With this move Twitter tries to recover by trying to get out of a very difficult moment especially on the stock markets.

Since the beginning of this year the Twitter title it lost over 19% on the Nasdaq. The most significant figure is what indicates a real collapse of Twitter from April 27 to today. The publication of the accounts for the first quarter greatly disappointed the analysts who have no longer believed in the microblogging site for months. From 27 April to today the title, in fact, lost 42% of its value, falling to $29,39 per share.
