Twitter ramps up on video and buys the Periscope app

The hands of Twitter they stretch up Periscope. The microblogging site, as reported by Business Insider, would have bought the startup that has developed an app for streaming live video. Cost of the operation: approx 100 million dollars between cash and shares.

For Twitter, this is one of the heaviest acquisitions made so far and comes, somewhat surprisingly, for an app that is still in the beta phase and which, in fact, has not yet been launched on the market. However, according to experts, Periscope has very high potential, as evidenced by the rapid rise of apps like Meerkat and YouNow, equipped with similar functions.

The acquisition of Periscope confirms the ever-increasing attention that Twitter is dedicating to the video side, as evidenced by the news at the end of January, when the microblogging site surpassed Vine, allowing its users to publish videos and tweet directly.
