Bigger and bigger TV screens, almost cinematic. This is the wager of television manufacturers to try to revive the market. This is what emerges from the rumors before the Consumer Electronics Show, the great electronics fair opens in Las Vegas on Monday.
The 2013 vintage was bad. In France – recalls Les Echos – sales fell by 15% in value and 18% in volume. 2014 will be no better, with a forecast of -10%.
To counter the fall, the manufacturers Samsung, LG and Sony are concentrating all their efforts on Ultra HD, the new screens with a definition four times higher than the classic Full HD. LG and Samsung have already announced their intention to present two 105-inch screens (2,66 meters diagonal) in Las Vegas.
The first Ultra HD were born at least a year ago, but the real commercialization began in the autumn. Prices are becoming more affordable. They always fluctuate between 3500 and 500 euros, even if at the beginning of 2013 some screens were sold for 40 thousand euros. Figures that are however destined to fall, to the extent that the production costs of the screen have already fallen between 30% and 40%.
