Consumer protection: a parliamentary commission is born

Fight against scams and unfair commercial practices, verify the quality and safety of public services, adapt regulations: these are the objectives of a new Parliamentary Commission for consumer protection in the final exam by the Chamber

Consumer protection: a parliamentary commission is born

Fight against scams and unfair commercial practices, verification of the quality and safety of public services, adaptation of legislation: the launch of a Parliamentary Committee on Consumer Protection and users. “It is the first time that the establishment of a parliamentary commission of inquiry into this matter has been proposed – claims one of the promoters, the Hon. Simone Baldelli (Fi) - and the main purpose of this Commission is to acquire data and information that could form the basis of future legislative or policy interventions".   

The commission will have to investigate, in particular,  

1) on the most recurring forms of scams or unfair commercial practices to the detriment of consumers and users in the supply of goods and services, such as unfair terms in contracts, improper use of personal data, misleading advertising and other similar phenomena.

2) It will also investigate relocationon 'Planned obsolescence as well as the quality of essential public services.

3) will monitor the state of implementation of the legislation on the protection of consumer and user rights, verifying its effectiveness also in relation to the sanctioning system, in order to identify any corrective measuresalso of a legislative nature.   

The commission, whose work will last until the end of the legislature, proceeds with the investigations and examinations with the same powers and limitations as the judicial authority, will be able to acquire copies of deeds and documents relating to proceedings and investigations in progress before the judicial authority or other investigative bodies, even if covered by secrecy and will present to the Chamber, annually and at the end of its work, a report on the results of the activity of inquiry. The expenses for the functioning of the Commission are established in the maximum limit of 50.000 euros per year and are charged to the internal budget of the Chamber.
