The new intervention intends to accompany the SMEs of the sector to seize the challenges and opportunities of change in the long path of the ecological transition

Sustainable tourism, 1 billion in loans from Intesa Sanpaolo

Intesa Sanpaolo focuses on the relaunch of companies in the tourism sector affected by the pandemic: the group led by Carlo Messina will make 1 billion euros available to encourage investments along the direction of the sustainable tourism, in line with the path of the Pnrr. The initiative, which also makes use of the synergy with Sace, is part of the broader strategic program Motore Italia launched this year with a ceiling of 50 billion and as the first direct intervention for SMEs in the sector.

In this scenario, two new financing solutions from Intesa Sanpaolo are designed to contribute to the relaunch of Italian accommodation facilities. In particular, Loan suites it is designed for tourism companies that "intend to improve their positioning in terms of quality of their accommodation through a mechanism of economic incentives thanks to the reduction of the rate following the sharing of improvement objectives", reads a note.

Instead, the second proposal (S-Loan Tourism) aims to encourage investments aimed at the energy requalification of the hotel structure, paying close attention to the environmental impacts. Also in this case, a correlated economic incentive mechanism is envisaged in terms of reduction of the cost of the loan and the possibility of combining the Sace Green guarantee at 80%, which allows the duration of the loan to be extended up to 20 years, including 3 pre-amortization years.

“Tourism has inevitably been one of the sectors most exposed to the pandemic. We immediately offered our support by making available 2 billion euros to meet the immediate liquidity needs of companies", he said Stephen Barrese, head of the Banca dei Territori Division.

"This agreement with Intesa Sanpaolo adds a further element to Sace's commitment to support the implementation of the Green New Deal on the Italian territory in support of a sector as strategic for the country's sustainable development as tourism - he commented Pierfrancesco Latini, CEO of Sace -. In this context it will play a leading role for the benefit of the national ecological transition, also as a lever for Pnrr investments".

The new intervention will allow SMEs in the tourism sector to be accompanied in the transition. "We appreciate Intesa Sanpaolo's willingness to support the renovation of Italian hotels, rewarding companies that invest more in quality", he underlined Bernabo Bocca, president of Federalberghi.

Secondo Maria Carmela Colaiacovo, President of the Italian Confindustria Hotels Association: "The package of interventions identified is very well calibrated for the sector", president of the Italian Confindustria Hotels Association. From Intesa Sanpaolo comes "support for the thermal sector", highlighted Massimo Caputi, president of Federterme Confindustria
