In December, the budgets - still provisional - for the year that has just ended are inevitable: among many, one of the first is that of Trivago.it, whose Observatory analyzed the prices of 2013 in the hotels of the main European tourist destinations. The survey, not exactly surprising, places Italy among the 10 most expensive countries of the Old Continent.

By comparing the hotel rates of 2013 with those of the previous year, the Observatory of Trivago.it. reveals that the situation in Europe is characterized by a negative sign, with decreases that reach even 14% in Russia and Poland, or 10% in Romania, while the only nation to remain stable in prices is Ireland, where the cost of 101 euros remains unchanged compared to 2012.

Looking at the ranking of the 25 largest European countries, Italy, on the other hand, recorded a decrease of 6%, like Croatia and Turkey: in one year, in fact, the average price dropped from 129 to 122 euros. However, this average rate keeps our country among the 10 most expensive on the Old Continent, along with Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, France, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Russia, the Netherlands and Finland.

Instead, taking a look at the destinations that keep the average price below 100 euros per room per night, the nations represented are Bulgaria (60 euros), which drops by 8% in a year, Romania (63 euros), Poland (65), Hungary (75), Portugal (87), Greece (88), Croatia (94), Spain (95), the Czech Republic (96) and Cyprus (98).

The main cities of Italy follow the national trend, recording price drops that oscillate between 1% in Verona and 6% in Palermo. Venice remained stable, as always, while the average cost of a hotel room in Florence increased by 1%. Among the 10 major Italian cities, Venice once again confirms the primacy of the most expensive city, with an average for 2013 of 196 euros per room per night, followed by Milan with 145 euros (-4% compared to 2012), Florence with 135 euros, Rome 130 euros (-4%), Verona 123 euros, Bologna 103 euros (-3%), Turin 101 euros (-3%). The rooms in Bari, Naples and Palermo remain below 100 euros per night, the same ones that also recorded the most significant declines.
