Proximity tourism: boom in green holidays

A survey by the Vaielettrico.it portal certifies that the Italians' summer 2020 is dedicated to greenery and that the Coronavirus is changing habits: here's how.

Proximity tourism: boom in green holidays

The so-called proximity tourism is actually the protagonist of summer 2020. The new trend had been widely announced by experts, by virtue of the Covid-19 emergency which has complicated the possibility of going abroad and traveling long distances, as well as igniting the conscience of many Italians on the need to support the economy of their country, rediscovering destinations and beauties too often underestimated. To certify it is, among others, the portal Vaielettrico.it, a platform specialized in sustainable mobility and which in fact, not surprisingly, also noted that the Italians' summer was green.

“The Coronavirus epidemic – explains a note – it is also changing holiday habits of people, encouraging proximity tourism. In this scenario, sustainable mobility therefore becomes an opportunity to experiment with a new way of relating to the environment”. Vaielettrico has launched the digital project "my electric holiday": it is an appeal addressed to all those who wish to share their travel experience with zero-emission cars and motorcycles during this particular summer 2020, by sending videos and photos.

And then the press release rattles off some examples of the new trend. For example, the Como Lake Econoleggio allows you to sail with zero emissions and visit the most fascinating places on the Lario, but also to explore the surroundings by renting e-bikes or e-scooters. And in Veneto, I love Piave allows you to move along the famous river with silent boats, also offering the opportunity to stop in special areas for a picnic with local delicacies. Moving into Puglia, the ForPlay company allows zero-emission driving with a fleet of around 50 Renault Twizys between the Dune Costiere Regional Park, Alberobello and Ostuni.

And, still in the small town of Brindisi, you can savor a "romantic" tourism on board the Calessino Ape in the electrified version, also visiting the 500th century farms in the surrounding rural areas, among millenary olive trees and tastings of the precious oil produced on site. Then going in Calabria, on Lake Arvo, in the Sila National Park, you can go on excursions aboard a small electric ferry. For island lovers, in Sardinia there is the possibility of renting electric boats to navigate in the enchanting Bay of Cagliari and the e-bikes of Discover Cagliari to make excursions around the city.

In Siciliafinally, the Eco Tour project is characterized by the use of full electric cars with overnight stays in villas, historic houses and refined residences, all surrounded by greenery.
