In its end of year letter to the associated entrepreneurs ofTurin Industrial Union, President Giorgio Marsiaj addresses a series of crucial issues concerning the future of Turin and Piedmont. Marsiaj begins by underlining the need to address the demographic crisis, defining it as one of the "big issues" that cannot be postponed for the region. He expresses concern that, if the trend towards zero or sub-zero population growth is not reversed, discussions on the economy, industry, work and training will be useless in twenty years, due to the lack of a large audience to listen to them and translate into concrete actions. But there are also some positive elements that give hope for the new year: inflation and the cost of energy are both falling, even if - warns the president - prudence requires not claiming victory too soon.
Sustainability and ESG issues
The president highlights the new European Union pact on migrants dated 20 December and underlines the importance that now falls to states and local communities, such as Turin, in transforming the costs of reception into investments for the future. Marsiaj places particular emphasis on social and environmental sustainability, inclusiveness and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) issues, indicating how these are becoming increasingly relevant in the purchasing decisions and evaluations of companies by international investors.
Italy's economic challenges
The president also discusses Italy's economic problems, highlighting stagnant growth and delays in necessary reforms, such as those concerning public administration, competition and justice. Furthermore, Marsiaj underlines the persistent problem of tax evasion, which reaches alarming figures according to the Bank of Italy: almost 100 billion euros.
Key factors for the future
Regarding the future, Marsiaj identifies three key factors: theartificial intelligence, the microchip , growth dimensional. He expresses optimism for the establishment of the center for artificial intelligence in Turin, even if he underlines the need to speed up the process. The president recognizes the importance of microchips in various business processes and underlines that the Aerospace City was designed to encourage contamination between different industrial sectors.
Finally, Marsiaj thanks the members and underlines the commitment of the Turin Industrial Union in providing services to businesses and in representing the legitimate interests of Turin industry before the institutions. The letter concludes with the president's pride regarding the awarding of the title of "Capital of Business Culture 2024" to Turin and with thanks to the key members of the Turin Industrial Union for their contribution.
