Türkiye, over 265 dead. Erdogan to the US: "Give us back Gulen"

The attempted armed coup staged in Turkey by some soldiers has been neutralized. The dead are over 265, including 161 civilians and government forces and 104 coup plotters. The wounded would be 1.400. On the other hand, the head of the Turkish armed forces Halusi Akar was released: this was stated by the interim chief of staff, general Umit Dundar. The prime minister, Binali Yildirim, stated that the soldiers arrested are 2.839.

The High Council of Judges and Prosecutors of Türkiye has also relieved of their duties 2745 judges across the country and issued an arrest warrant for nine judges of the Turkish Supreme Court. They are suspected of having had relations with Fethullah Gülen, the Muslim cleric who now lives in the United States and believed by Ankara to have inspired the attempted coup. "I invite the president of the United States - said the Turkish president Erdogan - to hand over Fethullah Gulen to us because he is implicated in the coup d'état".

The failed coup is strengthening the position of Recep Tayyip Erdogan, that is returned triumphant to Istanbul after the call for resistance. And he invited the population to remain in the square: "We must continue to maintain control of the streets tonight, no matter what the cost, because an attempt to exacerbate it could happen at any moment".
