Tsipras: "Now also negotiate on the debt"

With the scrutiny still underway but when the victory of the No was confirmed overwhelmingly, the Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras he underlined "the courageous choice of the Greek people", re-launching the urgency of a dialogue with Europe. “We have demonstrated – she said – that democracy cannot be blackmailed”.

Tsipras called for "a Europe of solidarity". The No's victory, he added, "is not a break with the European Union" nor is it a request for an exit from the euro. “Greece wants to sit down again at the negotiating table – he added – and we want to continue them with a real program of reforms but with social justice. Now the debt will also have to enter the negotiation».

Shortly before he had been the Greek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis commented on the vote: “The Greeks said a bold 'No' to five years of hypocrisy and austerity. Today's 'No' is a big yes to democracy”. “From tomorrow, Europe will begin to heal its wounds, our wounds, added Varoufakis, recalling that “for five months the creditors have refused any negotiation”.
