Trump: Use out of the Paris agreements

Trump: Use out of the Paris agreements

Now it's official: President Donald Trump has told Congress that the US is withdrawing from the Paris climate agreement. This was written by CNN reporting a document provided by the White House, which anticipated Trump's speech to the assembly: "The agreement negotiated by Obama imposes unrealistic targets for the United States in reducing emissions, leaving countries such China a pass for years”. With the abandonment of the global climate commitment, the US would be with Syria and Nicaragua one of only three countries in the world that are not part of the historic agreement.

However, dissent is already growing in the country for this sensational decision: 17 states have already announced that they will not follow the line of disengagement by the White House but will push for energy efficiency and renewables, while the owner of Tesla Elon Musk has said that he will no longer be Trump's adviser, and large companies such as Google and Facebook have also lined up on that line, which until the end tried to convince the president to change course.

The backtracking of the States should in theory subtract a large share of the cuts in CO2 emissions necessary to avoid the risk of climate catastrophe. Obama pledged to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2025-26% of 28 levels by 2005. Calculating that the US is responsible for a fifth of global emissions today, this could mean that about 5% of the target to be achieved is canceled with the stroke of a pen.
