Is Trump Back on Twitter? Musk launches poll for the reinstatement of the former president, with millions of users voting

Elon Musk reopen the doors of Twitter a Donald Trump, or rather leave the task to the users. On Friday evening the new Twitter patron posted a survey asking users to vote on whether former US President Donald Trump, who was banned from the site by its previous owners, should be reinstated on the social media. A few hours before launching the survey, Musk had rehabilitated some suspended accounts but also said he had not yet taken any decision on Trump's return.

The initiative comes after somewhat difficult days for the company. Immediately after the acquisition, Musk launched a restructuring plan by laying off thousands of employees, together with the top managers of the previous management. As if that weren't enough, thevoluntary mass exodus after Musk's ultimatum to the workers. So much so that the company had to announce the closure of its offices for next Monday.

Musk on Twitter: “Reinstating Trump: Yes or No”

In the text of the survey, Musk does not mince words: "Reinstate former president Donald Trump - Yes - No" ("Reinstate former president Donald Trump - Yes - No"). Within a few hours, over 5 million users voted for the referendum. For now, yes prevails with almost 60%, while no is just over 40%. The online poll ends tomorrow at 19pm in the US. "Vox populi, vox Dei", tweeted the new patron of the platform, is a Latin phrase which literally translated means: "voice of the people, voice of God". It means that popular or commonly accepted opinions and judgments must or can be considered true and just.

Why was Trump banned from Twitter?

Twitter had permanently suspended Trump's account in January 2021, citing his role in the January 6 riot at the United States Capitol. The former president had about 88,8 million Twitter followers when the company banned him.

It is not certain whether Musk will follow the will of Twitter users, but the turning point could come just a few days after Trump's announcement of his candidacy for the next presidential election.

Musk reinstates 3 more suspended profiles: that's who

While users prepare for radical changes on Twitter, Musk wants to restore 3 profiles: that of the comedian Kathy Griffinof the clinical psychologist Jordan Peterson and the conservative satire site baby bee.

Babylon Bee said in March that Twitter had suspended her account over how the site described a trans woman serving in the Biden administration — treatment that, according to Twitter, amounted to prohibited "hateful conduct."

Peterson was also suspended over a transphobic tweet attacking The Umbrella Academy star Elliot Page. While Griffin's account was suspended after impersonating Musk (he changed his profile name to that of the billionaire).

“Twitter's new policy is freedom of speech, but not freedom of dissemination. Negative/hate tweets will be nerfed and demonetized, so no ads or other revenue on Twitter. You won't find the tweet unless you specifically search for it, which is no different than the rest of the internet," Musk explained, adding that the measure will target the individual tweet and not for the entire account," the multibillionaire wrote.

Musk replies to Salvini: "I can't wait to meet him"

“Nice of you to say that. I look forward to a meeting”. Musk thus responded, on Twitter, to the invitation addressed to him by the Minister of Infrastructure Matthew Salvini come to Italy and invest. The owner of Tesla and SpaceX was inspired by an article, taken from an American site, in which the Northern League leader had called him an "innovative genius", to thank him and give his willingness to come to Italy.
