Trump: wall with Mexico at their expense

Trump: wall with Mexico at their expense

Donald Trump intends to build the wall with Mexico immediately. The new US president said this in an interview with ABC, confirming that in the end Mexico will pay the bill "in some way". And again: “We will start as soon as possible”, within “months”. Sean Spicer, spokesman for the White House, confirmed in the briefing that Donald Trump will sign two executive orders, one of which on immigration and border security which includes the construction of a large barrier on the border with Mexico, as well as increased controls border crossing and the construction of new detention centres.

Previously in a tweet, the new president had reiterated his intentions in this sense: “Great day tomorrow (today in Italy, ed) for national security. Among other things, we will build the wall!”. And as a first consequence of the Trump effect, Mexican President Peña Nieto has given up attending the summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), scheduled for today and tomorrow in Punta Cana, in the Dominican Republic.

“I regret and disapprove of the decision of the United States to continue building a wall which for years, far from uniting us, has divided us. Mexico doesn't believe in walls. I have said it over and over again: Mexico will not pay for any wall,” Peña Nieto said in a televised message.

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry informed that Peña Nieto - who was to travel to Punta Cana on Wednesday afternoon, and return to Mexico on Thursday evening - had to change his plans "for reasons of internal agenda". The election to the White House of Donald Trump - who promotes a protectionist policy and strong restrictions on migration - has put the Mexican president in difficulty, who is expected to meet his US colleague next Tuesday.
