Trump: “Jerusalem capital”. Israel rejoices, wrath of Hamas

Donald Trump has confirmed his intentions to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel: "We cannot continue with bankruptcy formulas, a new approach is needed to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian question", said the US president. The move is not failing to make the international community discuss. Reacting to the news, which the president of the United States has even defined as "a necessary choice for peace" (but at the moment the result is exactly the opposite), is above all the Muslim world: after the negative opinion of the Turkish president Erdogan, who talked about a move favorable to terrorists, now Iran too strongly condemns the US president's decision: "Recognizing it as the capital of Israel will provoke Muslims, it will unleash a new intifada, it will increase extremism and violence for which the US and Israel will be responsible". So said the Iranian Foreign Ministry, quoted by the Tehran media.

“We appeal for one new intifada against the occupation and against the Zionist enemy, and let's act accordingly", said the political leader of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, in a speech delivered from his home in Gaza and broadcast by the Hamas broadcaster 'al-Aqsa TV', while in the streets of the city there are numerous demonstrations of protest against the United States. "The recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel is a declaration of war against us," he added. The Palestinian authorities have proclaimed for today the general strike in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza in protest against Trump's decisions.

Even the EU and the UN have distanced themselves from Trump's move, but Trump continues on his way, even at the cost of isolating America among its closest allies, and after confirming that the American embassy in Israel will be transferred from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, without indicating the times for now: he collected the applause of Israeli premier Benyamin Netanyahu. “Trump – said Netanyahu – has forever linked his name with the history of our capital. We are in contact with other countries to express a similar recognition and I have no doubt that when the US embassy moves to Jerusalem, and perhaps even before, many other embassies will move. The time has come”.
