Following reports of e-mails with deceptive content, sent from an e-mail address that only apparently refers to a company of the Enel group, the company has taken all necessary actions to protect customers and group companies.
The addressee receives a fake bill apparently coming from “Enel Energia”, from the address “no_reply.enelenergia@enel.com”. The e-mails contain an Excel file attachment which, if opened, invites you to activate the Office "macros". The real moment of infection is just that. The activation of the "macros" opens the door to Trojan “Win32/Azden.E!cl”, malicious software (malware) that can allow the bad guys to take control of the infected devices and possibly to spread, through the network, also to other interconnected devices.
These e-mails were not sent by Enel Group companies or by companies appointed by it. This is an attempted scam similar to those repeatedly denounced by other companies and financial institutions. The text and graphics of the email are very well done and almost indistinguishable from a genuine email. Enel has already informed the competent authorities and requested the closure of the malicious sites.
Fortunately, this is a virus that can only spread to Windows systems with Office installed. Does not work on Apple, Linux or Windows systems with software other than Office. Furthermore, the Windows 10 security system (Windows Defender) blocks the actions of the virus, but is not able to purify the computer from the presence of the infection.
The company invites anyone who receives a suspicious e-mail not to click the links contained within the texts, not to download and open attachments and to verify the authenticity of the request through the usual contact channels: Enel points present in the area or toll-free numbers 800 900 800 for Enel Servizio Elettrico and 800 900 860 for Enel Energia.
