Trento and Bolzano, today's vote is a national test

Administrative elections today in the provinces of Trento and Bolzano but the consultation assumes the value of a national test after the turbulent days on the budget maneuver and the strong appeal to Italy from Europe and the markets.

Trento and Bolzano, today's vote is a national test

On Sunday 21 October, at 6 in Trentino (until 22 pm) and at 7 in Alto Adige (until 21 pm), the polls will open to renew the government of the two autonomous provinces further north in Italy: that of Trento and that of Bozen. We vote for the renewal of the provincial councils of Trento and Bolzano: 35 councilors for each and the 70 councilors elected in total will then go on to compose the regional parliament. Almost 850 people voted, 417.968 in South Tyrol and 429.769 in Trentino. The result that will emerge from the polls of the 1.046 seats located in Trentino Alto Adige (495 in the South Tyrolean territory and 551 in the Trentino area) will also be an important check for the national government.

Especially in Trentino, where in 2013 there was a plebiscite for the Democratic Party but where today the League is looking for an historic result. Five years ago the candidate Ugo Rossi who obtained 58,12% of the votes. Supporting it were the Democratic Party, the Autonomist Party of Trentino Tyrol (Patt), the Union for Trentino with Dellai, Verdi, Italia dei Valori, the Autonomist Union of Ladin and the Reformists for Autonomy. However, this time the Democratic Party is divided, Rossi is reapplying with a civic list and LeU has broken away. Instead, the center-right is united in the candidacy of the Northern League Maurizio Fugatti: in addition to the Lega, the coalition will also be made up of Forza Italia, Fratelli d'Italia, UdC-Centro Popolare, Progetto Trentino, Agire, Civica Trentina, Associazione Fassa and Autonomists Popolari. The 5 Star Movement brings its own candidate, Filippo Degasperi, who in 2013 stopped below 6%. In South Tyrol, on the other hand, the SDP is favored, which in 2013 won with 45,7% of the votes, electing 17 councilors out of 35. Failing to win an absolute majority, it allied with the Democratic Party.
