By 2022, the autonomous province of Trento will become the first 'Digital Smart Land' in the Alps: there are 28 "white areas" already covered - The Open Fiber plan

Trentino, Open Fiber brings optical fiber to the valleys

Is Covid convincing you to move to smart working in some remote valley of Trentino, to be able to work in the midst of nature and have a healthier lifestyle? You could do it right now, but know that by 2022 in all the Municipalities of the "white areas" of Trentino the super-fast fiber optic connection will also arrive. It will be brought by Open Fiber, which will thus make the Autonomous Province of Trento the first 'Digital Smart Land' in the Alpine arc, that is, in the words of Elisabetta Ripa, CEO of Open Fiber, e Maurizio Fugatti, President of the Autonomous Province of Trento, "a digitally intelligent, inclusive and sustainable territory".

“Trentino – underlined President Fugatti, addressing the Trentino administrators – has two priorities that cannot be postponed in digital infrastructures and new generation services, aimed at citizens and businesses. In particular, the ultra-broadband project, which will guarantee fast and secure connections throughout the territory, is the answer to real needs and will restore to the valleys and mountain areas the same opportunities reserved today for more urbanized cities and territories. The future of the mountain also passes through new technologies”.

"The synergy with the Autonomous Province of Trento, the Mayors and Trentino Digitale represents a winning factor of the #BUL plan in this area - added Elisabetta Ripa, CEO of Open Fiber - because it allows us to overcome all the technical and bureaucratic difficulties together connected to the realization of a work of this size and to implement an exceptional project: that is, to make this fantastic province one Smartland, with digital and cutting-edge services available to businesses and households. The FTTH network is a fundamental ally not only in an era marked by Covid-19, but it is a necessary tool for the construction of the Gigabit Society, whose goals the Commission has updated to 2025".

Open Fiber is intervening in the white areas of the Autonomous Province of Trento as concessionaire of the public tender of infratel, the in-house of the Ministry for Economic Development, and is building a network in the municipalities included in the plan FTTH (Fiber To The Homefiber to the house) which enables a connection speed up to 1 Gigabit per second. I am already 28 the white areas of Trentino that have an entirely fiber optic infrastructure, 37 the localities that can already benefit from a connectivity ultrabroadband, for a total of approx 33 thousand users already available for sale with Open Fiber partner operators. A smaller percentage of connections, mostly for homes scattered in more decentralized areas, are in fact made using FWA (Fixed Wireless Access) radio technology.
