Spring long weekends – 25 April, 1 May and 2 June – reward the choice of train. This was communicated by Trenitalia (FS) which has announced the booking data for the three dates. In fact, there are over 18 more seats on the Frecciarossa to meet the demand from holidaymakers. To satisfy it, Trenitalia has activated 40 additional connections for the entire period, characterized by a flow of travelers growing by more than 15% compared to last year, says the note from the parent company of the FS group. A flow of 4,5 million travelers is estimated on the Regional trains. Furthermore, more than 250 reservations were made on Intercity trains in the period 21-25 April, to which must be added a further 50 reservations for EuroCity trains to and from Switzerland and Euronight trains from Germany and Austria.
Frecciarossa and High Speed
Frecciarossa plans to double the seats on the section between Milan, Rome and Naples, on the days and time slots with the highest demand. Increase in seats also on the routes from Rome to the South, specifically Puglia and Calabria.
Among the news announced, the return of the Frecciarossa at night between Northern Italy and Calabria. Along the Adriatic coast, seven new reinforcement connections will be active between Milan and Pescara. Matera, Assisi and Perugia will be easier to reach with the Freccialinks, i.e. the service created with new generation buses in connection with the Frecce trains. On some specific days there will also be trips to Pompeii and Sorrento.
Regional trains for the cities of art and towards the sea
Thanks to integrated services by bus or ferry it is possible to reach the beach of Bibione or the island of Elba, the center of Taormina or that of Spoleto, the Valley of the Temples or the Bay of San Fruttuoso; over 600 places of tourist interest easily reachable with regional services. I “Sea trains” until 24 September they will travel between Lombardy and Liguria: there are twenty-one more regional connections on weekends, ten on Saturdays and eleven on public holidays, the result of the collaboration between Trenitalia, Trenord, the Liguria Region and the Lombardy Region. An offer doubled compared to last year which allows Lombard customers to reach the Ligurian Rivieras of Levante and Ponente.
Intercity for long distance travellers
Enhanced I connectionsintercity night on the Adriatic coast (Milan-Lecce and Turin-Lecce lines) with additional carriages on all six scheduled connections for the benefit of those traveling over long distances. An integrated and widespread offer from north to south Italy with 100 day connections and 24 night connections.
Finally, from 1 April, theEurocity already active between Zurich and Genoa, it has been extended to Sestri Levante with an intermediate stop in Santa Margherita Ligure-Portofino on Saturdays and Sundays: new travel opportunities for those from Lombardy and Switzerland who choose to come to Liguria by train to take advantage at best the Easter holidays and spring bridges.
Rti, Anas and Mit: the safety campaign is underway
Moving on vacation yes, but in safety. Rti, Anas and Mit (ministry of infrastructure and transport) have launched the awareness campaign on railway and road safety, compliance with the rules and to prevent incorrect habitual behaviour, in the station and in the vicinity of tracks and level crossings
It is the first initiative signed in synergy by Italian Railway Network (RTI) e Anas which together manage about 50 kilometers of arterial roads between railway lines and roads on which about 10 trains and 8 million vehicles circulate every day. Failure to comply with the rules causes about 250 accidents at level crossings every year, which in 10% of cases have resulted in serious or fatal consequences, and there are over 2.600 undue presences on the tracks or along the line which, between deaths and serious injuries, are fatal results in about 200 cases. Numerous episodes which also cause significant delays in railway traffic.
