Trenitalia, the new Frecciarossa Mennea is born: Rome-Milan in just two hours

From “Freccia del Sud” to Frecciarossa. Trenitalia has decided to dedicate to the memory of Pietro Mennea, who passed away last week and holder of the 200m world record for almost twenty years, the new high-speed train which will be the fastest in Europe: only 2 hours and 15 minutes (and not almost 3 hours like now) to connect the central stations of Rome and Milan.

The new train is called Frecciarossa 1000, renamed Pietro Mennea, and it is the first example that goes at a maximum of 400 km/h: the highest speed in Europe, even if it will travel at a "commercial" speed of 360 km/h h. Officially presented at the Ansaldo Breda plant in Pistoia, the Frecciarossa Mennea will now begin the test and technical trials process and by 2014 will be ready to whiz along the high-speed lines that connect the major Italian cities.

So starting next year, 2 hours and 15 minutes will be enough to travel between Rome and Milan, which can be reduced to one hour and 59 minutes between Tiburtina and Rogoredo stations without making stops in Florence and Bologna. And all the comforts will not be missing: the train dedicated to the Apulian champion has the most innovative technological solutions, to ensure safety, reliability and comfort, and will be distinguished by an aerodynamic profile of absolute originality and effectiveness and a design of great refinement and elegance, with particular attention to comfort, spaciousness and maximum accessibility.
