Trenitalia, Rock and Pop trains preview in Bologna

Minister Delrio, together with Mazzoncini (AD FS Italiane), Onesti (President Trenitalia) and Iacono (AD Trenitalia), kicks off the road show of the new commuter trains

The new Rock and Pop trains arrive in preview in Piazza Maggiore in Bologna, in the Trenitalia Village #Lamusicastacambiando.

The Trenitalia road show in the main Italian squares starts from the capital of Bologna to introduce citizens and commuters to the new trains of the regional fleet, destined from 2019 to positively revolutionize the travel experience of customers.

The Trenitalia Village, where the two trains are exhibited in real size (1:1 scale), was visited today by Graziano Delrio, Minister of Infrastructure and Transport together with Renato Mazzoncini Chief Executive Officer of FS Italiane, Tiziano Onesti and Orazio Iacono, respectively President and new Chief Executive Officer of Trenitalia who kicked off the road show of the new trains for commuters in Italian squares.

Also present were Stefano Bonaccini, President of the Emilia-Romagna Region, Raffaele Donini, Councilor for Transport of the Emilia-Romagna Region, Virginio Merola, Mayor of Bologna, Maurizio Manfellotto and Michele Viale, Managing Directors of the construction companies Hitachi Rail Italy and Alstom Italia.

Citizens and commuters in the #Lamusicastacambiando Village – until 12 October, from 10 to 20 – will be able to get on board to get to know and appreciate the technological features of the new Rock and Pop in detail: from the cockpit to the new seats and toilets. It will be possible to virtually build a customized train, thanks to an on-board configurator. A real conceptual revolution that takes into account the needs of travelers and that fits into the care of iron desired by Minister Delrio to develop and support a new way of moving using collective and integrated mobility, instead of the private car.

The new Rock and Pop trains, currently under construction, commissioned by Trenitalia from Hitachi Rail Italy and Alstom, will be delivered in all regions of Italy starting from spring 2019. The first region where the new commuter trains will arrive will be Emilia- Romagna. Altogether 86 trainsets: 39 Rock and 47 Pop.

Trenitalia's goal is to have a delivery rate of up to 13 trains per month, in line with the service contracts that the Regions have signed and will sign with the FS Italiane Group transport company.

At the center of the tour in the Italian squares – the next stage is scheduled in Turin from 3 to 8 November – there will always be music. The Trenitalia Village #Lamusicastacambiando will in fact host the musical animation of the RTL 102.5 deejays.

The new fleets of regional trains – 300 Rock produced by Hitachi Rail Italy and 150 Pop produced by Alstom – make up the maxi supply of 450 new trains of the order worth over 4 billion euros which, in terms of economic value and number of trains, is unprecedented in Italy.
