“From January, for those who purchase the e-ticket for Trenitalia Regional trains, if any reimbursement will be Automatic, with the usual rules”. This was announced by the CEO of Trenitalia, Luigi Corradi, who spoke at Expo Consumatori 4.0 in Ancona in a panel with Gabriele Melluso, president of Assoutenti.
“We are working to facilitate the travel experience of passengers”. An example, according to the CEO of Trenitalia, is the Tap&Tap “which allows you to pay for the trip by placing the contactless payment card directly on the validator. This is a service that we have already started on some lines and that will increasingly spread nationwide”.
Trenitalia, here's what Corradi said
An acceleration, therefore, on the theme of digitalisation: “Already in 2023 we started having again traffic volumes on our trains equal to pre-Covid levels,” said Corradi. “Today, passengers are increasing, especially for leisure and tourist mobility. For this reason, on the new Frecciarossa 1000 trains that will soon hit the tracks, we have provided more space for luggage and greater accessibility for passengers with reduced mobility. All this while also facilitating families with ad hoc commercial plans for greater economic sustainability of travel.”
As for the railway emergency management, Trenitalia has announced that the focus is mainly on the technological aspect, given that, as Corradi announces, “new, faster emergency locomotives will soon arrive, capable of quickly re-powering the train in difficulty, the emergency buses and the so-called hot reserves, i.e. trains that facilitate the transfer of passengers, will increase and we are checking how to increase the number of batteries on the trains, to have air conditioning for longer and travel a few kilometers without power”.
On the topic of security, finally, Corradi reiterated his solidarity with the train conductor who was attacked in recent days in Genoa and underlined Trenitalia's attention to improving the safety conditions of passengers and traveling personnel. "We have reactivated the turnstiles in some large Italian stations more punctually, so that only those with a ticket get on the train", Corradi highlighted. "The new trains are all equipped with closed-circuit television cameras and are open tubes, that is, open so that everyone can see what is happening in the carriages". Finally, the experimentation of body cams in Emilia-Romagna goes in the direction of deterrence and increasing the sense of security, which involves the installation of cameras on the uniforms of the personnel "that can decide to activate in the most critical situations. The experimentation has been going on for more than six months and the results are very positive in terms of satisfaction of the personnel and passengers".
